About NSS Unit
NSS-SSC Rajura has been present since 1988 – providing exceptional enrichment and leadership development opportunities to youth in SSC-Rajura.
The National Service Scheme is an Indian government-sponsored flagship for public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year in 1969. Mahatma Gandhi always insisted the idea that student and youth should be involved in the nation building process and service to the nation. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.
Shree Shivaji arts, commerce & Science College NSS Unit is headed by Mr. Gurudas Balki N.S.S. Program Officer since June 2018.
The NSS Badge Proud to Serve the Nation:
All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy.
The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of a the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.
Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
Motto:
The motto of National Service Scheme is “NOT ME BUT YOU” (स्वयं से पहले आप)
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
- Understand the community in which they work.
- Understand themselves in relation to their community.
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- It aims to develop practical knowledge and skills in the students so that they can face and find a solution to any hurdle or difficulty in their life.
- The expertise and the in-depth analysis of the environment they work and live in
- To develop a sense of responsibility and pointing out the problems faced by society
- The Scheme also aims to help the children in practicing social harmony.
- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster
Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer:
A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:

- The NSS offers a wonderful opportunity to use a part of spare time to empathise and help the poor and the under privileged fellow countrymen living in slums and villages.
- It provides the volunteers with an opportunity to train themselves as the future leaders and decision makers of the country.
- It provides training to equip the volunteers with the minimum necessary skills to carryout programmes.
- It provides with opportunities to take part in inter-collegiate / inter-university / inter-state camps and exchange ideas with students from other colleges / universities / states.
Enrolment drive and Orientation program:
Every year an Enrolment drive is conducted in the month of July & August and 150 volunteers are enrolled for the year. In order to orient the newcomers, an orientation cum training program is organized generally in the month of August under the guidance of our college Principal. The Program officer introduces the mechanism and overall function of NSS to the students and also guides them about the importance of NSS in their life.
NSS DAY:
NSS was formally launched on 24th September 1969, the birth Centenary year of Father of Nation. Therefore, 24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programs and activities
