The Department was established in 1992 and in due course of time the laboratory was established with necessary infrastructure. The Department was started with 44 students. The first B.Sc.-III year student passed out in 1994-1995. With increasing strength in past years, efforts have been made to improve the overall result and laboratory is also made well equipped to provide sufficient facilities to the students.
The Department imparts the knowledge of chemistry to about 200 students per year. Additional section of B.Sc. has been started from academic session 2014-2015. Average students per year therefore now has increased to more than 300. In current academic session 2016-2017, 386 students have been enrolled in the department. The main objective of the department is to help the student to prepare for examination along with update of the knowledge and to generate enthusiasm for creative future of chemistry.
